Titan Volleyball Falls to Arizona 3-1

Tucson, Ariz. - Arizona's Madison Kingdon put away 19 kills and logged a pair of blocks to lead the hosting Wildcats to a 3-1 victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton in match No. 4 of the Wildcat Classic Friday night at the McKale Center.

The win jumped Arizona up to 4-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in the tournament. The Titans are 1-1 in the tourney and fall to 2-3 overall.

The Wildcats won each of the first two sets handily (25-16, 25-19) and held the Titans to just a .099 attack percentage until the break. The Titan emerged from the intermission a changed team, hitting .333 in Set 3 and defeated the Wildcats by their second largest margin of victory this year at 25-12. Fullerton and Arizona tied 11 times and switch leads just twice, allowing the Wildcats to hold on in the final frame, 25-22 and improve to 12-1 all-time against Fullerton.

Kayla Neto and Bre Moreland again led the Titans offensively with 10 kills apiece. Both Neto and Moreland notched double-doubles on Saturday night, with Neto scooping 14 digs and Moreland, 13. It was Moreland's second double-double of the day.

Titan freshman Amanda Yamate led all players with 20 digs. Tori Moore and Marketa Hanzlova had 17 digs apiece for the Wildcats. Moore picked up a double-double as well, logging 39 assists in addition to her work in the back row.

Senior Leah Mauer (pictured above) set a career high with 7 blocks in the nightcap, picking up a pair of solos while assisting in five others for Fullerton. She also added eight kills and an ace. The Titans out-blocked the Wildcats 9.0 to 7.0. Cursty Jackson, who also had 15 kills, led the Arizona club with four block assists.

The Titan will wrap up their weekend early, facing Presbyterian in the 10:30 a.m. match on Saturday morning.
