Titan Soccer Routs UNLV 5-1

Northridge, Calif. - Oscar Aguero scored in the first minutes and Kevin Venegas added a pair of goals and an assist Saturday evening to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 5-1 rout of UNLV in the Labor Day Men's Soccer Classic hosted by Cal State Northridge.

The win improves the Titans; record to 2-0-1 while the Rebels fall to 1-2-0. Pending the outcome of a later match between CSUN and Akron, Fullerton at 1-0-1 with a goal differential of +4 is in line to capture the tourney title.

Aguero converted a through ball from Jameson Campbell past UNLV goalkeeper Ryan Harding 54 seconds into the match. Venegas tallied his first goal less than two minutes later to make it 2-0.

UNLV got a goal, the first allowed by the Titans this season, from Salvador Bernal in the 14th minute but the Titans scored twice more in the first half. Venegas tallied again in the 26th minute on an assist from Ritchie Gonzalez and Jon Birt put in an unassisted goal in the 35th minute.

Freshman Ian Ramos got his second goal of the young season off Venegas' assist in the 53rd minute.

Trevor Whiddon got the win in goal for the Titans before bowing out for the final 7:32 in favor of Bryan Escalante.

Fullerton will travel again next weekend to play Wisconsin-Green Bay and USF in a tournament in Las Vegas.
