A program on a hiker’s experiences when lost in the Himalayas of Nepal that was planned for Tuesday, July 12, by the Fullerton Public Library as part of its “Town and Gown” lecture series, has been postponed.
Library Director Maureen Gebelein said the new program date is Tuesday, Aug. 23.
Gebelein explained the postponement is due to the Fullerton City Council’s meeting on the proposed West Coyote Hills project, which is also set for the evening of July 12.
“There is so much interest in the community about the West Coyote Hills project that we did not want our program to conflict with it.”
Gebelein said the Aug. 23 program will feature Dr. Kristine Dennehey, associate professor of history at California State University, Fullerton, as guest lecturer.
Dennehey’s program, titled “Trekking in the Himalayas: Getting Lost and Found in Nepal,” traces her experience in 2005 when she became separated from a group of friends hiking in the Himalayas and got lost. She was found by a Nepalese family who took her into their home overnight and then helped her find friends the next day.
Dennehey will also give a brief history of the political situation in Nepal and tie it to her observations during her 2005 trip.
At CSUF, Dennehey teachers classes in modern historiography, as well as Japanese, Korean, Asian and modern world history. Her current research focuses on the environmental history of colonial Korea, and she has written numerous articles for scholarly publications.
The “Town and Gown” series is co-sponsored by California State University, Fullerton.
Further information about the “Town and Gown” program may be obtained by calling the Fullerton Main Library at (714) 738-6326.
Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the Aug. 23 meeting are asked to notify the library staff prior to the meeting.
